Question
Situation: batter bunts the ball down the first baseline but the bat is unintenionally lyed in front of the homeplate with the ball spinning backwards hitting the bat. Is the batter out? This is for USFA Girls 14u

Answer
Hi Ashley,

If the bat is on the ground and THE BALL hits the bat in fair territory, it continues to be a live ball and will be fair or foul based on where the ball settles or is 1st touched.

If THE BAT dropped or thrown hits the ball in fair territory it is a dead ball out.

Anything hitting the other in foul territory is a foul ball.
