Question
1. In a recent tournament, the opposing coach stated that a player is allowed to start at bat with only one foot in the box and the other out. Is this correct?

2. Runner on third, one out. Ball gets past catcher and runner trying to score. Batter gets out of box but she is directly in line of the catcher's potential throw to plate (pitcher covering). Catcher does not attempt throw. Is batter guilty of interference and runner called out?

Thanks so much for your help with these two questions.

Answer
Hi Dan,

In ASA at the start of the pitch both feet must be totally w/in the bb.  A foot may touch the line but no part of the foot may be outside the lines.  The coach was incorrect and we don't allow a pitch until the batter is in the box.

This is a HTBT situation but ASA 7-6-p the batter is out          ...when hindering the catcher from catching or throwing the ball by stepping out of the batter's box. It depends on the PUs judgment if the batter hindered the catcher.
