Question
QUESTION: I have a question with two scenario's. In ASA if a runner is running inside the baseline and gets hit with the ball is she out?
Batter bunts the ball in fair territory and takes off to first base inside the baseline. The catcher picks up the ball and hits her in the back. Is she out?
With a runner on second the batter hits a ball to the outfield. The outfield fields the ball and throws home. The ball hits the runner who was on second making her way home. The runner was inside the baseline. Is she out?
ANSWER: Hi Bill
In both cases no unless in the 1st case she had reached the 3' lane and interfered w/F3 taking the throw.

QUESTION: What do you mean reached the 3' lane (does that mean she was running within 3' of the baseline)?
If this is correct than can the same thing happen if F5 is throwing to F2 and the baserunner gets in the way?
Answer
Hi Bill,
1/2 way to 1st begins a line 3' wide from fair to foul territory that if a thrown ball hits the b-r while they are in it they cannot be called out for interference unless intentional. If the the throw is coming from the foul side of 1st base (ie F2 to F3) the b-r may leave the lane and run in fair territory w/out liability.
If the runner is not in the lane and a thrown ball hits them AND prevents F3 from taking the throw it is interference.
