Question
Follow up to question on 9-17-12. Runner on 1st base hit by line drive, while in fair terriory.  Fielder is behide base. You state dead ball b-runner awarded 1st base. What happens to batter ? ASA rules.  Thanks

Answer
Hi Steve,

when the batter hits a ball they become a batter-runner (b-r)  in this case the b-r is awarded 1st and any other runners advance only if forced.  Also in this case the runner on 1st is awarded 2nd because the b-r goes to 1st.  If there was also a runner say on 3rd they would stay on 3rd.
