Courtesy Runner

Question
I played in a coed slow pitch softball tournament this week and I disagreed with one of the calls and I'm hoping you can tell me where to find the answer. I was told the tournament would follow ASA rules. The question is if a girl request a courtesy runner can she hit a double or is she limited to go to 1st base only? She was not injured during the play.

Answer
Hi Donna,

I have no idea what rules you were playing by but they were surely weren't strict ASA rules.  Courtesy runners are not allowed in ASA SP, coed or otherwise (except for Master or Senior play). You can legally sub for a runner of course, but that's the only way to change runners in regular SP.

I have no idea what you mean by limiting a b-r to a single or double, even with a legit CR in Master or Senior play you ask for and use them only after you get on base.  If this "cr" was running from HP for the b-r that's really weird and no place in the rule book.
