D3K and team area

2016/7/15 16:39:20

Question
Dr. Ambrose,

In ASA, the rule about D3K states the player may run to 1B before they enter the team area.  What is considered the team area.

Thanks in advance,
Ronnie

Answer
Hi Ronnie,

The team area is a dead ball area and is the dugout or the bench area which usually has a fence and an opening between the bench and the field, etc.  If the player leaves the field of play by entering that area they cannot re-enter the field of play.
