Question
Situation is that batter bunts ball down first base line and fielder throws ball over first baseman's head along base line in to foul territory but still in fair territory.....can base runner continue to advance until ball is in pitcher's possession in the circle or a play is made on her for an out?

Answer
Hi Bernie,

As long as the ball was touched in fair territory, it doesn't matter where the ball is thrown, fair or foul.  The b-r can advance until the pitcher has control of the ball in the circle (the look-back rule in effect) or if a play is made until the play naturally ends.

Once the pitcher has control of the ball in the circle, the play is not yet over, the runner can continue to advance if they are not stopped on a base OR if off base they may stop once and then immediately advance or retreat non stop to the base they are moving toward.
