try-outs
Question
i am planning on trying out for my highschool team. i have not been playing for a long time. i have played 6 seasons with my church. this includes people from the ages of 15 to 60. i would like to gain the position of 2nd base or right field. any suggestions on things i should do to prepare? or how to impress them at conditioning?
Answer
Hi Allison
The most important part to a tryout is "standing out." There are so many girls out there you want to make yourself get noticed right away and throughout the whole time so your name stays in the coach's mind. This could be anything from always being the first one on and off the field, to always hustling to each position or drill.
Always being positive towards your teammates and talking it up on the field too. Also, moving your feet (never standing still), diving for balls so you are always going 100 percent. And, always paying attention to the coach (eye contact), and don't be obnoxious....there is always a happy medium. Stay relaxed with deep breathing, and just remember the basic fundamentals.....CATCH (two hands) and Throw. (Credit: Stacey Farnworth)
