Walking
Question
We had a situation on a co-ed team where a male batted and hit the ball over the fence, scoring all runners. He batted with 2 outs on the board. They said and the umpire allowed the next batter, a female, to walk, stating it was allowed in the rules. The only rule we could find, Rule 8 - Section 1, bullet 4 allows her to walk if he had been walked. Ever heard of this and if so, where can I find it in the rule book?
Answer
Hi Geo,
If I understand your question correctly....you can't find this in the rule book.
With 2 out a male batter hit a home run (correct?) The next batter up w/ 2 out and bases empty, a female gets a walk over the objections of the defense because the umpire says it is in the rule book (correct?) If so this is really weird! Why would she not hit? The male in front of her got a hit not a walk. She only has the option to bat or walk if the male in front of her walked w/ 2 outs.
If this was a rule why would any female bat with 2 outs? It doesn't make sense to me.
