Extension of 1st base

Question
Ground Ball to 2nd base.  1st baseman bobbles the ball.  Ends up grabbing the ball with his throwing hand and tagging first base with his glove.  This is a force play too.  Is the runner out or safe?  ASA Rules.  Umpire says safe....glove is not an extension.  I think differently.  If possible do you know the actual rule (if there is one)?  Thanks for your time.

Answer
Hi Mark,

What's difference between this and having the ball under control in the hand or glove and a foot on the base?  Of course you're right there is no difference, of course the glove on the hand is an extension.

8-7-c  The runner is out when on a force play a fielder contacts the base while holding the ball....

The rule states as you see "contacts the base while holding the ball."  That's all that is necessary for an out.

In a similar previous question I talked about in a state tournament a ss attempting to make a double play on a ground ball.  He tripped and fell on his way to 2nd and actually rolled 2 or 3 times to get to the base.  He rolled over the bag and contacted it with either his butt or his back with the ball in his glove, he got an out.
