Scoring Run
Question
ASA State Fast-Pitch game, one out with runners on 1st and 3rd. Line drive caught by the left fielder, who threw to first base to get the runner out before the tag-up. The runner on 3rd advanced to home and crossed home before the force at 1st base was made - does the run score?
Answer
Hi Tony,
I know it looks like a force play but it is not.
It is a live ball appeal of a base left too soon and it is a "timing" play. As such if the run scored before the out at 1st, it would count.
The run would also count under a dead ball appeal in the same situation.
