coach behind home plate

We just finished at the USSSA world series at Disney. In our final elimination game, played on a baseball field, the head umpire told each team to have a player ready to shag foul balls. There was a short fence halfway between home plate and the back fence and the opposing coach asked if he could place a coach on a bucket in that dead area to shag the balls. He agreed. First two innings were scoreless, then once that coach determined our signs they were magically hitting our pitches like crazy. We noticed the coach was relaying signs to the base coaches and they would change their stance accordingly. After five innings the tournament director arrived and made them quit, but the damage was done. We lost 8-0 and they said they could do nothing about the cheating and also doubted that a coach behind the plate could steal signs, relay them, and affect the game. I heard throughout the park that they umpire association that was suppose to officiate dropped out one week prior and the replacement ones didn't appear as familiar with softball as most I've seen. Some of the umpires told us they only do baseball. I was blown away that they allowed the game to be played like that. What recourse would I have in that situation. Thanks.

Protest!  Protest!  Protest!  If the umpires won't do anything about it, then it's your only recourse.  Do it DURING the game.  Make sure it is noted on the official scorer's book at the exact time, inning, and batter you protested the game.  Also get the head of the tournament and the tournament UIC involved in the situation.  As soon as something weird happens and it is not dealt with properly, the only thing you can do it protest the game, finish the game, and sort it out later.
