Fastpitch softball, rule interpretation

Question
My understanding of rule 6 is that an illegal pitch is called and a ball is awarded to the batter.  I don't see where rule 6 states to award the runners one base each. Am I missing somthing.

Thanks again for your answer..

14u fast tournament using ASA rules.  Our pitcher with runners on 1st and second 1 out started her normal pitching delivery when she stumbled on the rubber (Smaller baseball rubber) and never released the ball. The umpire called an illegal pitch awareded a ball to the batter and advanced both runners to second and third.

The ball never left her hand..

Thanks for your replay..

Thanks for the question!

Unfortunately, this is an illegal pitch.  You are not allowed to simulate a pitching motion without releasing the ball.  "The pitcher must not make any motion without immediately delivering the ball to the batter."  There are many other ways she could have pitched illegally, but what I spelled above is the must obvious.  It sounds like one way or another, had she pitched the ball anyway and stumbled, she probably would have pitched illegally if her pivot foot didn't get to drag across the dirt.  See ASA Rule 6 for Fast Pitch for more information.

I hope this helps answer your question, if not please reply!
