ASA slowpitch rule
Question
(1) Quick pitch, I know I can't do the USSS release, but how long must the pitcher pause/show the ball to the batter before releasing. I have been told a pause of 1 second is required, but no one can produce the rule.
(2) I have read that the pitch must be delivered palm up; however, many pitchers throw a back spin pitch that can only be delivered palm down. Please clarify.
Thank you,
Answer
Hi Eric,
Rule 6-1-b the pitcher must come to a full and complete stop with the ball in front of the body. The front of the body must face the batter. This position must be maintained at least 1 sec before starting the delivery.
6-3-d ...the palm of the hand may be over or under the ball.
that should answer those for you.
