retouch of 1st base

Question
On another board, much disagreement on whether a runner who turns right after touching 1st, must retouch 1st prior to continueing on to 2nd (i.e. 1st baseman misses throw, ball rolling loose). I believe that the runner's basepath is from where he is when he attemps to go to 2nd-directly to 2nd base, and doesnt need to retouch. ASA rule?. Thanks

Answer
Hi Dan,

In ASA play in this situation a b-r over-running 1st with a playable live ball can continue on to 2nd w/out re-touching 1st.  If a runner turns right with the look-back rule in effect, they are committed to 1st but that is not the case here.

What's the difference between advancing on this playable live ball after legally touching 1st or any other playable live ball.  That's correct there is none.

IF a runner over-running 1st on a playable live ball must re-touch before advancing there must be a rule to that effect.  Ask to see that rule.
