Question
R1 at 3rd base, R2 at 2nd base . Baatter hits a shallow fly ball toward 2nd base and both SS and 2nd base players move toward ball. SS collides with R2 as she runs toward 3rd base. Umpire rules R2 hindered ss progress to the the flyball, in the meantime the 2nd baseman catches the fly and then steps on 2nd base for an apparent double play because R2 did not return to the base.
Answer
Hi Barney,
I would like to see the play but if F6 had an opportunity to make a play and F5 had not yet made a legal catch I would have....
interference by R2, dead ball, R2 is out, R1 is returned to 3rd and b-r is awarded 1st base.
the key I see in your question is "Umpire rules R2 hindered ss progress to the the flyball" if so this is an immediate dead ball, interference, etc.
