runner getting hit by a ball

A player from our slow-pitch men's league team had batted and after overrunning second base he tried to get to third, but the third baseman started to chase him down to make the tag. As he tried to get back to second the third baseman throws the ball to the shortstop so the runner goes toward third base, then the shortstop attempts to throw it to the third baseman, but the ball hits the upraised hand of the runner as he slides into third. He was called safe but I was wondering what is to be called when a basemen throws the ball and hits a runner? Is there anything to be called in that situation.

No, normally a thrown ball remains live when it hits a runner.  The only thing that might of been called in this case is if the ump felt the runner threw his arm up in an effort to deflect the ball or hinder the fielders eye sight.  He would call runner interference and the runner would be out.  Apparently he decided the hand flying up was part of the runners slide motion and thus unintentional.  If runner interference is called then it would of been a dead ball and offender would be ruled out.  All other runners would return to the previous base unless forced to advance by the batter being awarded first base.  I hope this helps.
