Hardest Softball Position..?

ANSWER: Brittany,
In my opinion the pitcher and catcher positions are the hardest to play. The pitcher, in order to have a good level of success much pitch and practice year round, she must be dedicated, hard working and very selfless. Most good pitchers do this simply because they love the game and want to be good at what they do.

Catcher is a tough position simply because it is physically demanding on the body, not to mention the level of ability that the player has to achieve.

Well I had played pitcher last year on my middle school team, and now that i made my high school's varsity, I currently play 3rd base. I have played 3rd when I was in 7th grade, but I did not like softball as much until I played as pitcher last year.
I don't feel comfortable playing 3rd
so I would really like to be pitcher for my team the next few years. The current pitchers are seniors and they are really good. I'm not very good at the speed as they are, but I've never been taught on how to pitch.
This may have been a bit irrelevant but I was just wondering if you can give me suggestions on what I can do to improve on my pitching and what I can do to earn the pitcher position next year. Also, do you think I should stick with my position as 3rd baseman?

ANSWER: Brittany,
On my High School team, as a coach, I have to choose girls to do a specific job, when they get to a point when the cannot do their job, I find someone who can!
Your coach see's something in you that makes him want to play you at third(tough position as well), try to become the best 3rd baseman that you can be, who knows this might be the spot that gets you a scholarship one day.
If you want to become better at pitching you need to throw as often as you can, I like to see my girls throw every day if the can. This means dedication.
Remember these two things: "Always practice like you play." and "When your not practicing, someone else is."

I definitely wouldn't mind playing 3rd if he wanted me to, but I wanted to do more positions than just 3rd baseman.
I think the only reason he really put me on third was because I was the only one who tried out for 3rd, and there is only one other girl on the team right now who plays third, but she also pitches so there is no one else to cover 3rd. She is also definitely 10x better than me, but she really helps me out.
But, the thing is, no one else is pitcher or 3rd (besides me)this year that aren't seniors. So next year, there isn't anyone that we know of that could fill the pitcher's position, and I'd really like a chance at it. I heard the 2 JV pitchers weren't very good either.
Would you suggest I go up to the coach further into the season and ask him if I could practice on becoming a pitcher  (and along with 3rd base). Because then, I could get help from the two pitchers that are on the team this year. They also happen to be 2 of the best pitchers in our league.
I would really appreciate any advice or help at all.

If pitching is your goal then you need to pitch more on your own than in practice. You could ask your upper classmen for help or you could go to a pitching coach. If you want to be the go to pitcher than your going to have to work hard for it. Good Luck, Coach Suthe.
