Softball ruling
Question
Girls 14U fastpitch question.
With a 2-2 count on the batter she attempts to get out of the way of and side pitch and "swings" the bat through the plate.
However she is hit in the hemet by the pitch.
Umpire ruled it a batted out.
Is there a case for a dropped third strike or dead ball since it hit the batter?
What is the correct call?
Thanks.
Bruce
Answer
Hi Bruce,
In ASA play when the batter has 2 strikes on them and the 3rd strike is swung at and missed and the pitched ball touches any part of the the batter's person, the batter is out.
The ball is dead and runners must return to their base w/out liability to be put out.
