four base error?

Ok Doc, we were playing in a recreation league game where only 3 home runs are permitted, and after the 3rd, all home runs are outs.  The team at bat had hit all of their home runs, and had the bases loaded when a player hit a ball to deep left field, and our fielder jumped with his glove over the fence to try and catch the ball.  The ball went off of his glove, and over the fence and the umpires ruled that it was "four base error" and all four runs counted.  I tried to appeal to another umpire that it should be an out, and no base runners be awarded any bases.  So i guess it is two questions, 1) Can an error be called on you if you clearly try to scale a wall and catch a ball, and 2) Is there such a thing as a "four base error"?    Thanks

Hi Cody,

A batted fly ball that touches a defensive player and then clears the fence in fair territory is a "four base award" not a four base error.  it is not counted against any hr limits.

other than the title the umpire got the call correct, all 4 runs score.

this is really F7's mistake as they should know the game situation re: hrs and had they not touched it, it is simply an out according to your rules.
