Ruling on 11 man line-up
Question
I was recently playing in a ASA league game. The other team had 11 hitters in the line-up and no subs on the bench. One of the field players was removed from the game for not having the proper uniform on. He did not have a number on his shirt. This was not noticed till the 3rd inning. The ump ruled that the player spot in the line-up is an out. I thought that since they started with all players in the line-up they had to finish with all of them in the line-up or forfeit. What is the ruling in this situation?
Answer
Hi Alejando,
this is ok, they can play "shorthanded" and take an out in the batting position. They could not play 2 players short though
The only time you cannot play shorthanded is upon "ejection" of a player. Please don't confuse ejection with disqualification which happened to this player.
