Banned Bats
Question
I have been out of the softball playing for a few years and are getting back into play. I have a Demarini Dark bat and I am not sure if I can use this bat in ASA play. I heard this bat is a banned bat. There is a USSSA 1.20 BPF stamp on the bat but there is no other association stamp on the bat. Could you explain the grandfather clause. thank you Carol Graytok
Answer
Hi carol,
you're bat is "non-approved" (or banned) from ASA play. You cannot use it, a non approved bat being used is subject to the batter being called out and ejected both from the game and the tournament if you're playing in one. You need only to step in the box, no pitch need be thrown.
go to the ASA website and click on bats and you will see which are approved and which are not.
