Question
Our team has an exceptional hitter.  She can hit almost any pitch that comes anywhere near the plate.  Whereas that may not be a good technique to learn, she can straighten out all but the worst pitch.  For this reason a particular coach from an opposing team will not allow his pitcher to pitch to this young lady.  Instead, the coach instructs the umpire to place the batter on first base as a walk.  Is this legal?  If so, why?  Why would we want to penalize our youth for being good at what they do?  Isn't it at least unethical?

Thanking you for your time and consideration.

Tim

Answer
Hi Tom,

"Is this legal"  Yes

"If so, why?" because there are no rules against it

"Why would we want to penalize our youth for being good at what they do?" because "She can hit almost any pitch that comes anywhere near the plate."

"Isn't it at least unethical?"  I'm not qualified to answer that but at this level I'm more for playing than worrying about winning or losing

"Thanking you for your time and consideration."  I'm sorry I couldn't give you the answer I think you were looking for
