fastpitch 12-14 yr old girls
Question
Batter hits ball, is running to first, the batted ball hit the runner as she is running to first? The batter did nothing wrong while running to first, the ball actually took a hard right turn into batter/runner. Is she out for being hit with ball?
Answer
If the ball was in fair territory and no play had been made by the defense, then yes the batter is out. If the batter was in foul territory, no.
This is why we teach our girls to get in foul territory as quickly as possible when running to first base.
This is actually an interference call on the batter/runner. With interference, the umpires should never judge intent. Just what happens.
It doesn't seem fair, but that is how it works.
