Coaches Box

QUESTION: Hey,

I'm am trying to find out clarification on a ruling for interference.  During a foul pop up if the defensive player runs into the third base coach, who is standing in the coaches box causing the defensive player not to be able to catch the ball.. Is the batter out due to interference?  I always though that as long as the coach was inside of the box then he was unable to be charged with interference.

that would be incorrect, just as the batter's box is not a sanctuary neither is the coaches box.

If the coach did not move or otherwise hindered the defense in an opportunity for a play I have interference, batter would be out.

QUESTION: thanks for answering my question...Can I also ask...If the coach did try to move and get out of the way...but there was still contact...would it still be considered interference?...I assume yes

the coach must give the defense the opportunity to execute a play w/out being hindered or impeded that is correct, intent in this play doesn't matter... but and this is a different animal if a batted or thrown ball unintentionally hits a coach that would not be interference.
