Intentionally dropping line drives, for sure double play
Question
I recently played in an adult slow pitch coed game where twice the opposing team allowed a line drive to hit there glove just long enough to stop its momentum, then they let it hit the ground and then quickly picked it back up so they could turn the "sure" double play. In my opinion this isn't how your suppose to play the game. My question is, is there a rule saying you cannot do this? To my knowledge there isn't but I was just curious. Thanks!
Answer
Hi Brock,
We do have a rule for an intentionally dropped fly ball but the player must actually catch it and then intentionally drop it....dead ball, batter out... however merely guiding the ball to the ground does not qualify for an IDFB.
I would have to see it but just based on your description I probably have nothing.
