Foul tips
Question
Does the rule about the foul tips not going over the head of the batter apply for slowpitch as well.
Answer
Hi jeff,
In ASA play in all games of softball
a "foul tip" is a batted ball that goes sharply and directly from the bat to the catcher's hand or glove and is legally caught by the catcher. in fp this is an out on the 3rd strike. In sp a foul tip or foul ball on the 3rd strike is an out
a "foul ball" in this instance would be a batted ball with a perceptible arc and and/or the catcher must move their mitt/glove to make the catch. The height of the batter's head no longer applies. if caught on any count this would be an out
