Base running on a walk
Question
We had 2 outs and one runner on 2nd base. After the pitch, our base runner started to run, but the pitch was a ball which resulted in a walk. Their catcher threw the ball to 2nd base while the runner was still off the bag and he was called out. Was this the correct call? Our runner assumed the ball would be dead on a walk.
Answer
Hi Andy,
it depends on which game of softball you're playing and you didn't tell me which.
in fp ball is alive on b4
in sp w/stealing, ball could be alive or dead on b4 depending on where the pitch hit
in sp w/out stealing the ball is dead on b4
