Crow hopping in the batters box
Question
I am a pitcher in a coed slowpitch league governed by ASA rules. We have a batter in the league who has begun to "crow hop" into pitches. Is this legal? The league doesn't normally mark the batter's box so it's hard to tell where his feet are during his AB. I would like to know if I should appeal to the umpire or just come up with a pitch to counteract his acrobatics. Thanks
Answer
Hi Susan,
they cannot leave the batter's box and come back in and then hit the ball but they can move w/in the entire bb which is 3 by 7.
Remember also that if any part of the foot is touching any part of where the line would be they are in the box. Also a foot can be in the air when the ball is contacted and then come down outside the box after the ball is hit.
