Fastpitch DP/Flex rule
Question
QUESTION: Good Afternoon.
I'm struggling with a lineup that will allow me to keep two of my best hitters in the batting order. Both hitters also
happen to be my two best pitchers AND both girls are poor
fielders.
Here is my lineup scenario:
8 A
3 B
6 C
1 D (Pitcher #1)
9 E
4 F
DP G (Pitcher #2)
2 H
5 I
Flex J
Obviously there are no problems if my starting pitcher(D)
pitches a complete game However, during the game how could
I strategically replace my starting pitcher(D) with
pitcher(G) and keep both players in the batting order?
This may be something very simple but I seem to have brain
lock trying to figure it out.
Thanks in advance.
ANSWER: Hi Larry, since the DP can play defense for any player, put G into pitch and D continues to bat, not play defense and this is not considered a substitution.
Is this what you're looking for?

QUESTION: Thank You Mark for your quick reply. This is an
awesome tool!!
Your answer sounds easy enough, does (D) now become
the DP and will they switch places in the batting order?
Thanks again.

Answer
Hi larry,
no, no no, no, NO! They both stay where they are in the batting order, it's just a tweak of the rule that the DP can play defense for any player. "G" continues to be the DP at B7 and now pitches and "D" continues at B4 just no longer plays defense.
