is this interference
Question
Pitched ball was supposedly misplayed by catcher and bounced off backstop onto field. Third strike for batter. Batter kicks ball whi.le running to first in fair territory. RUnner on second scores, batter advances to second . As runners attempt to score from third in similar situations, ball is assumed to be live. What should the ruling have been if the catcher touches ball and if catcher does not touch the ball ?
Answer
Hi Mark,
This is interference, dead ball, b-r is out and all others return to the last base touched at the time of the interference. Doesn't matter what catcher does. Intent of the b-r doesn't matter either.
ASA 8.2.BATTER-RUNNER IS OUT.
F. When the batter-runner interferes with:
6. (Fast Pitch) a dropped third strike.
