Question
QUESTION: From another answer you posted.  See below for question.

Answer
HI Victor,

When I'm asked a question AE sends me an email telling me, in your case I did not get 1 so I didn't know until AE sent a follow up, it sometimes happens and I apologize for the delay.

On a force out the only requirement is legal possession of the ball by the defense and contact with the base. In this case the b-r is out.
(if any equipment contacts the base it must be in it's proper location, ie the player couldn't take off their hat, grab it w/ their hand and touch the base with their dislodged hat.  Well they could but the b-r wouldn't be out)

FP umpires semi-joke that if the girl fields the ground ball, is moving to the base, trips and falls and their pony-tail touches the bag we have an out.

In a tourney once I had F6 field the ball, trip as he ran to 2nd, roll over 3 or 4 times and literally roll over 2nd base with his body.  We had an out on R1 coming from 1st.

What would your call be if their pony-tail touches the bag?

No outs and runner on first.
What if a batter hits the ball between 1st and 2nd and R1 dodges to miss the ball and it hits the pony-tail - F4 fielded the ball and threw to 1st for an out.  Would you have two outs?   Anyway I have two outs.  again just curious.

I have never had to make a call like this - ever - but this may be the year....

no rush on the answer.

ANSWER: As long as the girl had the control of the ball in their hand or glove and her pony-tail now contacts the bag we have an out.

In the 2nd case there is no call as a legal tag must be made on the offensive player either with the ball in the hand or in the glove.

QUESTION: sorry to ask for clarification.

I wanted to say - I read from this post almost every day.  I enjoy the information you give to each question.   thank you.

if the runner is hit by a ball in front of a player who is attempting to field a ball we have an out.  I guess that was my question.

if the runner dodged the ball and the ball hits the pony-tail (we do if it hits the leg, arm, etc...)do you have a out

Answer
Hi kerry

If R1 is hit by a fair batted ball before it passes an infielder exc the pitcher the ball is dead, runner is out and the b-r is awarded 1st base.

If the batted ball hit R1's pony-tail or any other part of her body, yes we would have an out, but just 1, the ball is dead so no further play is allowed and the b-r could not be put out at 1st.
