Base running/Scoring of run

I asked you question 2 days ago about runner at 1st being thrown out because he couldn't get back to first after left fielder caught ball but runner at 3rd scored before out was made.
Since we play SSUSA Rules we are being told that 5.7 SCORING OF RUNS page 39/40 B. No run shall be scored if the 3rd out of the inning is the result of : 3. A preceding Runner is declared out on an appeal play. NOTE: An appeal can be made after the 3rd out in order to nullify a run. This is from the SSUSA Rule Book.

Hi Curt,

I had to look up SSUSA, never heard of it but it looks like you guys play senior softball.  

Your quote of your rule as is exactly the same as the ASA rule,

ASA 5-5 No run can score if the 3rd out of an inning is the result of

b.3 a preceding runner is declared out on an appeal play.


What this means no runner can score "behind" the runner called out..in this case the runner appealed for leaving early.

IE.... runners on 3rd and 2nd, 1 out, deep fly ball, caught, both runners score.  R1 (on 3rd) is appealed for leaving early and called out.  R2's (on 2nd) run is now nullified because they were behind R1.

or same situation as above, but both legally tag and R1 misses HP and is appealed.  R2's run would not count because R1 who preceded him was called out on the appeal.

If you look at the RS I sent you, it states "all runs scored IN ADVANCE (my emphasis) of the appealed runner and prior to the legal appeal count.  It just makes clear that runs in front of the appealed runner count.
OK?  

Your last part deals with a "fourth out" appeal and simply means you can appeal a runner who scored for missing a base or leaving too early even if 3 outs have already been recorded.  If accepted that run would not score.
