saftey bag and dropped 3rd strike
Question
We were working with catchers and 1st basemen on "inside/outside" throws down to 1st after a dropped 3rd strike and we were told with safety bags the catcher MUST throw to the inside? Is that correct?
Answer
No it is not.
F3 can set up on either half of the bag depending on where the throw will be coming from. The runner then must take the open half of the bag.
If F3 sets up on the colored portion of the bag and the runner is forced to run in fair territory, outside of the running lane, the runner will can not be called out for interference with the catch at first unless there is an intentional act by the runner to interfere.
