ASA Batting Box
Question
Is a batter allowed to start out of the box before the pitch is thrown, then as the pitch is thrown is the batter allowed to run from out of the box thru the box and again back out of the box while making contact (bat to ball) outside of the batters box?
Answer
Hi Jim,
No...a batter must be totally w/in the bb at the start of the pitch, a foot may touch the line but no part of the foot may outside the line.
They may move w/in the box during the pitch but they can not leave the bb and reenter and hit the ball
If a foot is on the ground completely outside the bb and contact w/ the ball is made, the batter is out.
