DROPPED SECOND STRIKE IS IT A LIVE BALL IN ASA RULES
Question
Here is the situation. There is a runner on third with two outs. the count on the batter is 1-1. The batter swings at the next pitch and misses the pitch. The e catcher dropped the pitch and the batter thought it was strike three and ran to first base the catcher throws to first to get her out meanwhile the runner from third scores on the play. What is the correct call. Does the run count or is the batter out
Thanks
Answer
Hi Kyle,
"Does the run count or is the batter out " The run DOES count and the batter is NOT out. We simply put the batter back at bat with the current count and score the run.
Without making F2 feel too bad we call this a DMC (dumb move catcher). The ball is live on this situation and the defense is responsible for knowing what to do with it, pretty much that's it.
