Question
I-specifically need a high school rule interpretation for the State of Wisconsin on a pitcher who's pitch hits off a catcher and goes out of play with a runner on 2nd leaving the base at release of ball from pitcher. The runner from second makes it 3 steps from 3rd base as the ball trickles out of play after it bounced off catcher on pitch. Does she get to score?
Answer
Tom,
A pitch that is thrown out of play or bounces off the catcher and goes out of play is a dead ball. All runners are awared one base from the base they were on at the time of the pitch. In your situation, no the runner does not score, they are awarded third base.
