Double base rule

Question
I have two questions; one on the double base rule; If a runner going to first hits the white bag and there is a play on, the 1st baseman misses the ball and the runner returns to the colored base before the first baseman regains possession of the ball is the runner Safe? I have always been told hitting the white on an infield play is like missing the base completely, if so the runner then would be able to return before the ball is fielded. Or is it an automatic out?

The other on pitching: does the pitcher still have to start from the pitcher's rubber or like in other organizations this has been changed for safety to where the pitcher can pitch from a total of 6 feet behind the rubber...

Answer
Speaking ASA on the base rule.

In your scenario, the runner did not touch the base.  The batter/runner is not out automatically and can return to the base if they can do so prior to being put out.

I don't know of any fastpitch organization that lets you pitch from behind the pitcher's plate.  Pitcher's must start from the pitcher's plate.
