catcher throw to first with only two strikes
Question
I think i saw this in an NCAA SEC softball game this weekend. While a girl was batting the catcher threw the ball to first base with only two strikes on the hitter & it wasn't ball four, however the hitter was awarded first base? Did i see this correct & what is the rule?
Answer
Coach,
I don't do NCAA but speaking to high school, I can't think of any rule that award first base in your situation.
I know that there are rules in high school that require the catcher to throw directly to the pitcher. Exceptions would be when the catcher is making a play on the runner or after a strike out.
