DP/ FLEX -
Question
Hi Mark,
My question pertains to ASA 16u fastpitch softball.I am starting the game with the DP and Flex in the starting lineup. My Flex (player-A)is pitching. As the game progresses I decide to put the DP in to pitch and I go from 10 players to 9 players in the starting lineup as the Flex (player-A)leaves the game. The next inning I put a new player-B off the bench that has not yet been in the game into the Flex position to pitch and now I am back to 10 players in the starting lineup. My question is can I still re-enter player-A in the Flex position one time after this? I know player-A left the game when I went from 10 players to 9,but I am not sure if putting player-B in would use up player-A's one re-entry because she occupied the Flex first. I don't think it does.
Answer
Hi Curt,
You understand the ASA substitution rule just fine. Any player can be in the game, subbed for and re-enter once. Of course once they re-enter and are subbed for a 2nd time, they are out of the game.
Player A can re-enter anytime you want back into the Flex position. Player A has not used up their re-entry position just because you put B into that lineup position.
In fact you could put C, D and E there then return A if you want. Also B, C, D and E can also re-enter into that position.
