intentionally dropped ball

Question
runner on 1st batter runner hits line drive to left of SS who reaching for the balling in the judgment of the umpire intentionally drops the ball tags 2nd base forcing the runner from first and throws to first completing an apparent double play.

Is this correct?

No, Pete, this isn't correct, and it's a PROTESTABLE intentionally dropped ball ruling by the umpire.  Here's ASA's verbatim version of it, Rule 8-2-J: "BATTER-RUNNER IS OUT: When an infielder intentionally drops a fair fly ball, including a line drive or a bunt, which can be caught with ordinary effort with first, first and second, first and third or first, second and third bases occupied with fewer than two outs.  EFFECT: Dead ball, runners must return to the last base touched at the time of the pitch.  If an infield fly is ruled, it has precedence over an intentionally dropped ball."
