lefty fastpitch pitcher
Question
my daughter is 12yrs old. She has control problems in the game. She can throw 52mph with good volisty. She has a good stride towards home plate, she open and closes her hips well and the ball makes it past the plate but out side on the left about 60% of the time. I notice she is rolling her hand to the outside and letting the ball roll off her index finger. Any way that she can fix this problem. Thanks.
Answer
Dave,
Sounds like your daughter is on her way to being a strong pitcher. Full speed repetition is the key. Tons and tons of throws.
Try this. At the ball field, draw a line in the dirt from the apex of home plate to the center of the pitchers plate. Have her pivot foot touching the right side of this line. When she strides have your stride toe come down just at the line. Tell her to lead the last half of her arm circle with her wrist, kind of like the hand is cocked back ready to flip the ball. Make sure her arm circle stays on the "power line" all the way through the arm circle and after release.
This should help control tremendously.
