defensive equipment

Hi Mark,
Sorry about the confusion I caused regarding offensive equipment.
I now understand that a batted or thrown ball that strikes offensive equipment not involved in the game is a blocked ball.

If a thrown or batted ball hits defensive equipment what is the effect?  Could you also supply the section in the manual that deals with this.
In addition, what is the effect of a batted or thrown ball that strikes a member of the defensive or offensive team who is standing outside the dugout. Would we have interference?

Hi Robert,

It depends on what defensive equipment you mean.   On a thrown ball if it's involved in the game such as a catcher's mask it is nothing.  If it is something not involved in the game like a glove belonging to the defense laying outside the dugout on a thrown ball it is a blocked ball and the overthrow rule applies.  

A batted ball striking anyone outside the dugout is just a foul ball and a warning to get back inside the dugout while play is on.  A thrown ball hitting the defensive player outside the dugout is a blocked ball and the overthrow rules apply.  Offensive players could be called for interference if they interfere with a play or if no play is possible it is a blocked ball and runners return to the last base touched and again get your butts back in the dugout.
