What did I do?

Ok, we're between innings. I'm coming in from center to hit first. As I drop my glove the ump yells, lets get a batter in here. Remember I'm not even in the dugout yet. Ok, so I go grab my bat, it's not there, I take two steps in the opposite direction, not there. I look back and there it was all the time. I grab the bat and he yells again, we need a batter in here. I take a step out of the dugout and he tells the pitcher to go ahead and pitch. The pitcher hesitates but pitches, not once but twice. The second time I'm nearly hit crossing towards the plate and mind you not even in the approach area of the batters box. So, as we play the batter starts with a ball and a strike. He's calls both pitches as one each and now I have two strikes and two balls. And as the rules dictate two fouls after two strikes the batter is out. Does this sound as if the umpire failed in his duty. He never said playball, and the five second rule for the batter to get into the box from outside it was not done enforced cause I had to jump in and hit before I was ready. I also believe that the quick pitch could have been enforced but since the ump initiated the play I'm not sure. I've been playing this sport for over thirty years and have never ever seen anything like this. Your comments are appreciated.

Honestly I have no idea the pace of the game, players doggin' it, etc that was going on. It sounds to me that that the umpire was frustrated w/ the pace of the teams play but I wasn't there.


I can only tell you in ASA a batter has 10 secs to take their position in the bb after being directed by the umpire or a strike is called, no pitch need be thrown.  After another 10 sec another strike is called, etc.  So the procedures by the PU was incorrect if you play ASA, still strikes can be called if undue delay is going on.
