DP/Flex Question
Question
Lets say Mary starts the game as your DP batting third and Jenny as your Flex playing SS. Later in the game you sub Betty in for Mary so now Betty is your DP batting third. Mary is allowed one re-entry. Can she re-enter into any position (say LF batting 9th) or is she limited to only re-entry into her original DP position batting third? Same question for the Flex. If you sub Doris in for Jenny so now Doris is your Flex can Jenny re-enter into any position or is she limited to only re-entry into her original Flex position?
Answer
Andy,
Once a person (except the flex player) is in the line up, they can not be on offense at any other spot in the line up. Obviously the flex player doesn't bat. Mary can only bat in the third spot.
If you decide you want your flex player to play offense, they can only bat in the spot the DP occupies. The third spot in your scenario.
Jenny can not go into any other position than the flex unless she is substituted for the Mary in the third spot, in this case you have nine in the line up and Doris and Jenny can not be in the game at the same time.
Make sense? I know it can get confusing.
Look at it like this
Batter 1 Subs
Batter 2 Betty
Mary DP Doris
Batter 4
Batter 5
Batter 6
Batter 7
Batter 8
Batter 9
Jenny Flex
First substitution Betty for Mary
Batter 1 Subs On the bench
Batter 2 Mary locked into the third spot in the order
Betty DP Doris
Batter 4
Batter 5
Batter 6
Batter 7
Batter 8
Batter 9
Jenny Flex
Next substitution Doris for Jenny
Batter 1 Subs On the bench
Batter 2 Mary locked into the third spot in the order
Betty DP Jenny locked into the Flex spot or third spot in the order
Batter 4
Batter 5
Batter 6
Batter 7
Batter 8
Batter 9
Doris Flex
There are some other scenarios but this is the basics of it
