Question
My husband would like to know what happened to the, I think it was, Ivory Coast player that broke his neck in the 1995 Rugby World Cup?
How bad were the injuries and is he still playing today?

Answer
Olga,

Thanks for the question.

The player was indeed from the Ivory Coast, Max Brito was his name and he was the winger in the game against Tonga, which they lost 29-11.

He is still quadraplegic from the neck injury but remains active in the game. He attended the 99 World Cup final in Wales as South Africa's guest of honour. He lives in France (Bordeaux or Toulouse) on a pension provided by the rugby community after the accident.

Chris
