Fitness for a Hooker

2016/7/16 9:56:38

Question
Hi Nick, I live in Christchurch, New Zealand and play hooker. I was hoping that you might have some tips for me on any fitness work that is good for my position. What type of fitness work do you think would be most beneficial for a hooker?

Any help you could give me would be great.

Thanks

Lee

Answer
I suggest you train to maximize your strengths and improve your weaknesses.

If you are a prop-like hooker then get strong but work on endurance and do your best with speed and fitness.

If you are a lighter hooker train more like a flanker.

See if you can work with a personal trainer or over summer join an amateur athletic club with coaches to work on your speed and endurance.

A good weight work out is always needed but use a proper trainer.
