Should i play rugby?

2016/7/16 9:56:06

Question
You probably get this question all the time but i'm not sure if i have the size to be effective. I'm 6 foot and weigh around 180 185 i go to the gym quite a bit and benched 260 and deadlifted 315 in the summer. I played american football as a linemen during highschool and wasn't to bad. Basically would i just get thrown around because if so rugby will be out and do you have any tips for preperation for playing rugby. Any advice would be really appreciated. Thanks

Answer
Mate, you sound perfect for rugby a 6 foot 185 pound guy can play in the backs, the flank or even number 8.

If you are working out and have good speed you will have a lot of fun.

Get with a local club and ask if you can come along to training to see what the game is like. Be honest about your experience and aske to be mentored/coached.

A good book is "Rugby for Dummies" as a 101 for rugby in the USA. Feel free to ask more question here as you go along and look over my past answers especially with regards to tackling.
