Question
hi, im from canada and right now i play hooker and captain my school team. im about 5'7 163 and im still trying to figure out if i can play more competitivly (at the representitive level) I have talked to my coach about this and he thinks i would benifit more playing scrum half. however im not that fast. But i do base my strengths on being able to hit hard and power running. In the fall season i had recorded 6 tries in 10 games which isnt too bad for a front rower. Any suggestions on moving positions (maybe a different one other than scrum half? and if theres any good exercise for explosive speed?)

thanks

Answer
Hi Adam,

I am not sure of your age. If you are in high school you are probably 16 or 17. You could grow 2 or 3 inches still. You will fill out too. Not many teenagers stay un-filled out after they leave high school and hit college or work.

That said you could end up being 5'9" or 5'10" and 190 lbs +. That would be perfect for hooker. With a weight regime you could be bigger.

But hey if your dad is a little guy and mum too you could stay at your current size.

That is your call. Sounds to me like hooker is the place to stay if you do not have real speed.

Unless you focus on speed over 40 yards and improve it I would stay at hooker.

For taining get to a good gym and enlist a professional trainer. It is the only way to get a proper work out.
