Question
Hi Nick.
I am from England and I have played sport all my life (soccer, Thai boxing, track are a few of the sports), but I want a change of direction. On recommendation of a friend,I have been trying out as a running back with a UK American Football team and have thus completed a number of measurables: 10.6ft broad jump, 39" vert, 39 rep bench,4.07s 20 short shuttle, 4.4 40 yd dash. My 1RM bench is 407lbs, bench & squat are 528 lbs. I am 6'2 220lbs and have never played the game in my life! Another friend has suggested rugby-again as a back or on the wing. I played rugby at school, but not since the age of 16.I am very competitive and want to reach the highest level (I'm 29 so not looking a pro) I can. Which would you suggest I focus on to achieve that. Thanks in advance.
Answer
Honestly mate I can't tell you which to play. I say to search your thoughts and go with the sport that fires your passion the most. The one that excites you and get you revved up to play. The one that is the most fun for you.
Rugby has a great tradition and social network world wide and is a game for every man. Football is a sport for athletes and challenges a person to be very disciplined and exact in their executions of plays. Each has their pros and cons.
Follow your bliss.
